Glossary
- Learning lab
- A free study site. It is not a job claim and it sells nothing.
- Artifact
- A file the run wrote, so the result is not only a memory.
- Pure function
- Same input, same output, no hidden write.
- Status code
- The number HTTP uses to say how the request finished.
- Secret
- A value that grants access. It is not lesson content.
- Golden set
- Questions with agreed answers, reused so scores compare.
- Token
- The piece of text a given model reads or emits.
- Grounding
- Tying a claim to a passage you can open.
- Context window
- The maximum text one model call considers.
- Temperature
- A sampling control. It is not a truth dial.
- Refusal
- Stopping instead of filling a gap with a guess.
- Model card
- The provider's note of intended use and limits. Confirm it is current.
- Done check
- The condition that says the output is finished enough.
- Role
- The label that says whether a line is an instruction, a person, or a tool.
- Schema
- The declared shape of an output or a tool argument.
- Regression
- A check that used to pass and now fails.
- p95
- A point on the slow tail: about 95 of 100 samples are faster.
- Diff
- The lines that changed between two versions.
- Passage
- A chunk of source text the answer may use.
- Chunk
- The unit you index and later paste into a call.
- Embedding
- A numeric vector standing in for a piece of text.
- Candidate
- A passage the search thought might help. It is not yet the answer.
- Citation
- A pointer to a passage you actually retrieved.
- Ablation
- Turning one piece off to see what changes.
- Workflow
- Steps in an order you wrote down.
- Tool
- A function the loop may call, with a schema and a known effect.
- Trace
- The ordered record of what the loop did.
- Approval
- A recorded human decision before an undo-hard action.
- ReAct
- A pattern that writes a reason and takes an action in turns.
- Simplest design
- The fewest moving parts that meet the done check.
- MCP
- Model Context Protocol, a public way for hosts to use tool servers.
- Host
- The application a person is actually using.
- Resource
- Data a server can expose without necessarily changing the outside world.
- Transport
- How the bytes of the protocol move.
- Root
- A boundary on files or data a server may see. Confirm the spec's word.
- Paper server
- A design you can trace without running a public service.
- Channel
- A way a person and the assistant exchange a turn: voice, chat, or message.
- Barge-in
- The person starts speaking while the assistant is still talking.
- SLA
- A service promise. This lab does not state one.
- Wording
- The channel-specific sentence. The policy stays put.
- Handoff packet
- The note a person needs in order to continue without guessing.
- Learning lab
- Study material. Not a job claim and not a product.
- Serving
- Answering calls with a model that is already trained.
- Confirm before relying
- The mark this lab uses when a public figure was not re-checked today.
- Endpoint
- The address of a hosted model API. Confirm it before you call it.
- Allowed corpus
- Text you have a right to put in the lab.
- Policy page
- The short rules the capstone is graded against.
- Portfolio
- The files a later reader can check. Not a title.
- Cascaded pipeline
- Speech-to-text, a language model, and text-to-speech, in that order, as LiveKit's pipeline page describes it.
- Barge-in
- The person speaks while the assistant is still talking. Vendors name the detector differently.
- Labeled latency
- A timing sentence copied with the vendor's name. Not a promise from this lab.
- Signaling
- How the ends find each other. WebRTC's Wikipedia page says the media API does not include it.
- Orchestrator
- The framework that orders the stages. It is not itself the language model.
- Ephemeral token
- The Speech to Speech page's client-side credential, so the API key stays off the browser.
- Transcript
- Text from speech. It still needs a check against audio you are allowed to hear.
- Polarity
- A positive, negative, or neutral class. Wikipedia lists it as a basic sentiment task.
- Rubric
- The written behavior a score is about. Without it, the number has no meaning in this lab.
- Redaction
- Removing or masking information that can identify a person. A name-only pass can leave a linked identifier.
- Pitfall
- A failure mode named by a source. It is not solved by a fluent sentence.
- Handoff packet
- Channel, what was said, the note id, and the open question.
- Guardrail
- A check you can fail: schema, cap, and a person for an action that is hard to undo.
- One-party exception
- The federal condition in § 2511(2)(d) as copied by Cornell. It is not a map of state law.
- Scripted test
- Lines you wrote, with an expected property, saved next to the result.
- Not a claim
- A sentence this chapter refuses: legal advice, a sufficient guardrail, or a job title.
- Sister system
- A system beside the call. It is not the voice model.
- Mind map
- A learning picture of the person, the channels, and the systems beside the call.
- Dispatchable location
- The FCC page's phrase: a validated street address plus further detail such as a suite or apartment.
- Integration map
- Named arrows between systems. An arrow is not a deployment.
- Bridge
- A sentence that names two boxes and the direction between them.
- Future hook
- A dated note of what to re-check. Not a roadmap this site promises.
