# Call recording note

- Phone-based recording forks from the phone. Network-based recording can fork from the phone or the gateway.
- SIPREC is a separate recording session. RFC 7866 is the protocol. RFC 7865 is the metadata.
- CUBE's IOS XE 17.6 guide calls CUBE the session recording client when SIPREC is configured.
- A quality score is not the audio file.
- Consent and retention were not opened. Confirm the rule where you operate.
