SRST

Learn it in 5 minutes

  • SRST is the fallback when phones cannot reach CUCM.
  • The router becomes a small call agent for the phones that fail over.
  • Dial plan on SRST is a subset you configured, not the full CUCM CSS.
  • Fallback is a registration event.
  • When CUCM returns, phones re-home. Confirm the timers.

What is going on

Survivable Remote Site Telephony keeps a branch placing and receiving a planned set of calls during a WAN failure. It is not an automatic copy of every CUCM feature. Hunt pilots, pickup, and presence may not exist in fallback. Test the fallback dial plan on purpose.

Confirm before relying. Confirm whether the site uses SRST, E-SRST, or Unified SRST for the platform you run.

Worked example

WAN down. Phones show a fallback mode and register to the branch router. 911 and local PSTN still match the SRST dial peers. An internal abbreviation that lived only in CUCM fails. That failure is expected if you never built it on SRST.

Quiz

1. SRST automatically clones every CUCM hunt pilot.

Ecosystem

Sister pieces sit on the ecosystem page: the glossary, the mind map, the integration map, and the sibling labs.

  • SRST — Fallback call processing on the branch router.
  • Re-home — Phones returning to CUCM after the WAN recovers.

Config. List the numbers that must work in fallback, including emergency, and test them.

Troubleshooting. A phone that never falls back may still be reaching CUCM over a path you thought was down.

Bridge. Webex Calling survivability gateway is a different feature. Do not use the SRST command set as if it were that feature.
