Emergency location
Kari's Law requires direct 911 and on-site notification from a multi-line telephone system. RAY BAUM'S Act is why the dispatchable location has to be good enough for a responder.
Configuration
- CUCM with Emergency Responder: switch-port discovery, ELIN, and a callback number that returns to the site that placed the call.
- Webex Calling and Teams Phone: a location or emergency address on the user or the workspace, and a PSTN path that is allowed to carry 911. A Calling Plan location and a Direct Routing SBC do not share one setting.
- Notification: a security desk, a screen, or a phone that rings when 911 is dialed. That path is tested separately from the PSAP call.
Troubleshooting
- 911 works for executives and reorders from the lobby: the lobby CSS lost the emergency partition. See the dial-plan lab.
- The PSAP calls back and a headquarters receptionist answers: the ELIN or the emergency address is the headquarters one.
- A prefix is required before 911: that design fails Kari's Law even if the call completes.
