Third-party PBX & CC to Webex
Cisco names a third-party PBX as a source the Dedicated Instance method has covered, and it names third-party phones as a provisioning case. It does not print an Avaya, Genesys, or Amazon Connect object crosswalk. What it does print is how Webex Contact Center reaches a premises PBX or Microsoft Teams, and how UCCX may sit beside Dedicated Instance.
01 · Executive summary
Five lines, then why it matters
- Migration Insights reads a Unified CM tar. A third-party PBX export is not that tar. [cite:2] [cite:5]
- The implement article says to work with the third-party vendor for third-party devices and phones. [cite:5]
- Local Gateways such as Cisco CUBE or approved third-party SBCs can be set for +E.164 so they interoperate with an on-premises PBX. Session border controller configuration is the administrator’s work. The voice-channel article does not include vendor-specific SBC steps. [cite:3]
- Microsoft Teams agents use a registration or certificate Local Gateway, CUBE or a third-party SBC, +E.164 on the gateway, and presence sync between Agent Desktop and the Teams client. [cite:3]
- A customer story offers three contact-center approaches beside Dedicated Instance: Webex Contact Center, UCCX on Dedicated Instance IaaS, or UCCX left on premises if the 60 ms round-trip holds. [cite:6]

03 · Core concepts
What Cisco printed, and what it left blank
| Claim you can teach | What the page actually says | Cite |
|---|---|---|
| Third-party PBX is in scope of a method | The Dedicated Instance practice article names BroadCloud, BroadWorks, Spark Calling, Unified CM, HCS, and third-party PBX as platforms the method has been used for. | [cite:1] |
| There is an object crosswalk | These pages do not print one. TODO-verify any Avaya, Genesys, or Amazon Connect field map before you teach it. | [cite:1] |
| Insights ingests the PBX | Migration Insights and the user task take a Unified CM tar. Do not describe a third-party export as that tar. | [cite:2] [cite:5] |
| Third-party phones convert like 8800 Enterprise | The deployment guide says many of these devices have no firmware upgrade path from enterprise to cloud firmware. Provision them in Control Hub. Some are replaced. The example is ATA 191/192. Others need manual reconfiguration or software changes. | [cite:2] |
Contact center beside Dedicated Instance
| Placement | Constraint the article prints | Cite |
|---|---|---|
| UCCX and Unified CM both on premises, with a SIP trunk toward Dedicated Instance | On-premises Unified CM is call control for agent and supervisor phones. Dedicated Instance serves back-office users. The story says this meets the 60 ms round-trip because UCCX and its Unified CM are together. | [cite:4] |
| UCCX on premises, Unified CM in Dedicated Instance | Round-trip time between UCCX and that Unified CM must be less than 60 ms. The interface is JTAPI. The article says it is unlikely a customer premises in AMER meets that from observed latency. | [cite:4] |
| UCCX on Dedicated Instance IaaS | The customer story says the customer purchases UCCX separately and deploys it in IaaS so the 60 ms requirement can be met. This room does not invent an IaaS SKU. | [cite:6] |
| Webex Contact Center with Dedicated Instance agents | Certificate-based trunks. Registration-based trunks are no longer supported for that inter-op. Inbound may arrive on a Local Gateway into multi-tenant and then Webex Contact Center, or on Cloud Connected PSTN. | [cite:4] |
Teams and the premises PBX
| Rule | Printed text | Cite |
|---|---|---|
| Who may be an agent endpoint | Webex PSTN options, Webex Calling devices, Webex App, premise-based PBX devices, or Microsoft Teams-based agents. | [cite:3] |
| Teams path | Local Gateway Direct SIP between the Webex Calling Local Gateway and the Microsoft Teams tenant. Registration or certificate Local Gateway. CUBE or third-party SBC. Presence sync is included. | [cite:3] |
| Forbidden shortcut | Cisco does not support directly connecting Webex Calling PSTN-delivered calls directly to Microsoft Teams endpoints. | [cite:3] |
| Dial number | Free-form. Typically +E.164. Not mandatory. Must be reachable through Webex PSTN and routing. | [cite:3] |
| CUBE guide | Microsoft Teams Direct SIP for Cisco CUBE points at the interoperability PDF. A third-party SBC uses the manufacturer’s guide. | [cite:3] |

| Webex App Hub | The catalog the deployment guide points at for third-party calling solutions. | SBCs, phones, intercom, pagers, ATAs, plus support, analytics, recording, and billing. | https://apphub.webex.com/calling | Treating the catalog as a migration crosswalk. | [cite:2] |
| Local Gateway | CUBE or an approved third-party SBC. | The path for a premises PBX and for Teams agents. | Trunk, route group, unknown-extension routing. | A direct PSTN-to-Teams shortcut. | [cite:3] |
| Cloud Connected PSTN | Numbers saved in Control Hub as +E.164. | CCP agents and DIDs are always entered that way. | Calling → Numbers shows the globalized form. | A national number that never matches the dial plan. | [cite:3] |
| UCCX | Contact Center Express beside Dedicated Instance. | JTAPI latency, not a Webex Contact Center queue pattern. | On-prem, split, or IaaS. | AMER premises RTT above 60 ms. | [cite:4] [cite:6] |
| Webex Contact Center | The cloud contact center the voice-channel article configures. | Agents can stay on a PBX or move to Teams through the gateway. | Entry points, dial number, international format. | Dial number not reachable. | [cite:3] |
| Identity | Webex users still have to exist before a Calling user migration. | A third-party directory export is not a substitute the user-tool article describes. | T6-R03. Provision users first. | A tar of people Control Hub does not know, or no tar at all. | [cite:5] |
| Emergency | Basic emergency on Webex Calling wants a customer-owned +E.164 per location. | A PBX callback number is not automatically that location number. | T6-R07. Do not invent a RAY BAUM mapping for a vendor PBX. | A location with no customer-owned +E.164. | [cite:7] |
| Recording and WFM | The deployment guide names third-party recording and support solutions on App Hub. | No SKU or connector parity is printed for Genesys or Amazon Connect. | TODO-verify a vendor recording bridge. | Assuming Unity Connection message migration covers a third-party voicemail store. The guide says there is no native move of Unity Connection messages or greetings either. | [cite:2] |
Integration edges

| CUBE | Teams tenant | The interoperability PDF | Direct routing configuration the voice-channel article points at, and does not reprint. | [cite:3] |
| Dedicated Instance | Webex Contact Center | Certificate trunk | Agent calls. Registration trunks are no longer supported on that path. | [cite:4] |
| UCCX | Unified CM in Dedicated Instance | JTAPI | Call control, only if round-trip time is under 60 ms. | [cite:4] |
| Unified CM BAT | Migration Insights | Tar | Eligibility, including a third-party device column. Not a non-Cisco PBX export. | [cite:2] |
Cross-platform bridges
| This room | Legacy | Peer orientation | Cite |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unified CM tar tools | BAT export is the documented input. | An Avaya or Genesys export is not that file. TODO-verify a Control Hub ingest. | [cite:5] |
| Microsoft Teams agents | Direct SIP through the Local Gateway. | This is not a statement that Teams Phone equals Webex Calling. The forbidden path is a direct PSTN handoff to Teams endpoints. | [cite:3] |
| Amazon Connect or Genesys | Not named as a migration source with an object map in these pages. | TODO-verify parity before a design review treats them as equivalent. | [cite:1] |
Future hooks
Canon plan. Keep the object-crosswalk row empty until a Cisco page prints vendor fields. Cisco. The practice article already says the method has been used from a third-party PBX. That sentence is historical scope, not a published runbook. [cite:1]
Ecosystem troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely sister-system cause | Check | Fix | Cite |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Teams endpoints never ring from Webex Calling PSTN | A direct connection was attempted. | Whether a Local Gateway Direct SIP trunk exists. | Use the gateway. Cisco does not support the direct path. | [cite:3] |
| UCCX features stall after Unified CM moves to Dedicated Instance | JTAPI round-trip is not under 60 ms. | Measured RTT from UCCX to the Dedicated Instance Unified CM. | The article says AMER customer premises often cannot meet it. IaaS colocation is the story’s other option. | [cite:4] [cite:6] |
| A third-party phone never appears in a user-migration task | The task consumes a Unified CM tar, and many third-party devices have no firmware conversion. | DeviceEligibility.csv and whether the device was provisioned in Control Hub. | Work with the vendor. Replace when the guide’s example class applies. | [cite:2] [cite:5] |

Paths you can cite
- Read DeviceEligibility.csv from Migration Insights before you schedule a third-party phone. The report names IP phones, Room OS, ATAs, and third-party devices. [cite:2]
- For a device with no enterprise-to-cloud firmware path, add it in Control Hub. The guide’s replacement example is ATA 191/192. Work with the vendor when the implement article says to. [cite:2] [cite:5]
- On the Local Gateway, build a dial plan that matches the premises agent destination in E.164 and +E.164 if agents will sign in either way. [cite:3]
- For Microsoft Teams agents, use a registration or certificate Local Gateway and the CUBE direct-routing PDF, or the SBC vendor’s guide. Include trunks, route groups, and unknown-extension routing. [cite:3]
- For Dedicated Instance agents on Webex Contact Center, use the certificate inter-op trunk. Do not revive a registration trunk for that path. [cite:4]
- If UCCX stays on premises and Unified CM moves into Dedicated Instance, measure round-trip time and stop if it is not under 60 ms. [cite:4]

09 · Self-question ladder
Twelve rungs
L0What does this room decide first?
Whether Cisco printed a procedure, or only named the source. Third-party PBX is named. The object map is not. [cite:1]
L1What file does Migration Insights read?
A Unified CM tar. DeviceEligibility.csv then flags third-party devices among others. [cite:2]
L1Who configures a third-party phone that has no firmware conversion?
You provision it in Control Hub, and the implement article says to work with the vendor. [cite:2] [cite:5]
L2Which agent endpoints does the voice-channel article list?
Webex PSTN, Webex Calling devices, Webex App, a premises PBX, and Microsoft Teams. [cite:3]
L2Is +E.164 mandatory on a dial number?
It is typical. It is not mandatory. The number must be reachable. [cite:3]
L3How do you prove a Teams agent design is the supported one?
Show a registration or certificate Local Gateway, CUBE or a third-party SBC, +E.164 on that gateway, and no direct PSTN-to-Teams hop. [cite:3]
L3What evidence shows UCCX can stay on premises?
Round-trip time under 60 ms to the Unified CM that owns call control. The article warns that AMER customer premises often miss it. [cite:4]
L4How is this different from T6-R04?
T6-R04 is UCCE and PCCE into Webex Contact Center. This room is the third-party and UCCX-beside-Dedicated-Instance path those pages actually print. Do not import a fifth queue name. [cite:4]
L4Which trunk type does Dedicated Instance use toward Webex Contact Center?
Certificate-based. Registration-based trunks are no longer supported for that inter-op. [cite:4]
L5Why will you not draw an Avaya station-to-Webex user table?
No cited page prints it. The cell stays TODO-verify. [cite:1]
L5What will you not copy from the CUBE PDF into this room?
The voice-channel article points at the PDF and says detailed SBC steps are not in the article. This room stops at that pointer. [cite:3]
L3Where do third-party calling products get catalogued?
The deployment guide sends you to the Webex App Hub calling collection. That is a catalog, not a migration procedure. [cite:2]

Twelve questions
Which article names third-party PBX as a source the method has covered?
Answer
The Dedicated Instance preparation and migration practice article, tf6kpq. It does not print an object map. [cite:1]
What does DeviceEligibility.csv include besides Cisco phones?
Answer
Room OS devices, ATAs, and third-party devices. [cite:2]
An ATA 191 has no enterprise-to-MPP path. What does the deployment guide say?
Answer
Some devices cannot move and the equivalent Webex Calling model replaces them. ATA 191/192 is the printed example. [cite:2]
Can Webex Calling PSTN calls land directly on Microsoft Teams endpoints?
Answer
No. Cisco does not support that connection. [cite:3]
What Local Gateway types does the Teams integration require?
Answer
Registration or certificate, on CUBE or a third-party SBC, with +E.164. [cite:3]
State the dial-number rule in one sentence.
Answer
Free-form, typically +E.164, not mandatory, and reachable through Webex PSTN and routing. [cite:3]
What is the UCCX round-trip limit to Unified CM in Dedicated Instance?
Answer
Less than 60 ms, on the JTAPI interface. [cite:4]
Dedicated Instance agents register a trunk into Webex Contact Center. Which trunk type is still supported?
Answer
Certificate-based. Registration-based trunks are no longer supported for that inter-op. [cite:4]
Where does the deployment guide send you for third-party calling solutions?
Answer
The Webex App Hub calling collection. [cite:2]
A colleague maps Genesys queues onto Webex Contact Center from memory. What do you mark?
Answer
TODO-verify. These pages do not print that crosswalk. [cite:1]
Who owns detailed SBC configuration in the voice-channel article?
Answer
The administrator, using Control Hub parameters. Vendor steps are outside that article. [cite:3]
Which three contact-center approaches does the Dedicated Instance customer story name?
Answer
Webex Contact Center, UCCX on Dedicated Instance IaaS, or UCCX left on premises when the 60 ms round-trip is met. [cite:6]

13 · Interview
Oral answers
30 seconds. Cisco says the Dedicated Instance method has been used from a third-party PBX. The migration tools still eat a Unified CM tar. Third-party phones are provisioned in Control Hub when they have no firmware conversion. There is no Avaya field map in the pages this room cites.
2 minutes. Webex Contact Center can send an agent call to a premises PBX, a DID, or a cell, through Cloud Connected PSTN or a Local Gateway. The gateway is CUBE or an approved SBC, and the administrator owns the SBC lines. A dial number is free-form. Plus E.164 is the usual form and is not mandatory, but the number has to be reachable. Microsoft Teams agents use Direct SIP on that same gateway class, with presence sync. Cisco does not support handing Webex Calling PSTN calls straight to Teams endpoints.
30 seconds, UCCX. If UCCX stays on premises and Unified CM moves into Dedicated Instance, JTAPI round-trip must be under 60 milliseconds. The integration article says most AMER premises links will miss that. The customer story’s other choices are Webex Contact Center, or UCCX bought separately and placed on Dedicated Instance IaaS.
2 minutes, trunks. Dedicated Instance into Webex Contact Center uses certificate trunks. Registration trunks are no longer the supported inter-op. Inbound can arrive on a Local Gateway into multi-tenant and then the contact center, or on Cloud Connected PSTN. Do not reuse the Calling acceptance phrase “round robin, longest idle, or simultaneous ring” as if it were the Webex Contact Center queue catalog.
What you will not say. You will not invent an Avaya, Genesys, or Amazon Connect crosswalk. You will not paste IOS from the CUBE PDF into an answer you have not opened. You will not call App Hub a migration tool.
