Route patterns, lists, and groups

Learn it in 5 minutes

  • A route pattern matches digits.
  • A route list holds route groups in order.
  • A route group holds gateways or trunks.
  • Distribution inside the group is its own setting.
  • A pattern pointed at a gateway skips the list.

What is going on

When the PSTN call fails over, you are usually looking at the route list order and whether the first member sent a release cause that CUCM is willing to hunt on. Not every failure hunts.

Worked example

Pattern 9.! sends national calls to a route list. Group 1 is the primary SIP trunk. Group 2 is the backup. A 503 from the first trunk can hunt. A fast busy from a downstream reason may not. Read the cause.

Quiz

1. A route group is a list of partitions.

Ecosystem

Sister pieces sit on the ecosystem page: the glossary, the mind map, the integration map, and the sibling labs.

  • Route pattern — Digits in a partition that point at a gateway or route list.
  • Route list — An ordered set of route groups.

Config. Name the pattern, the list, the group, and the member before you change hunting.

Troubleshooting. If only some calls fail, compare the digit string with the pattern, not the trunk status alone.

Bridge. A Webex Calling route group is a different object. Say which product you mean.
