A migration habit that does not invent a cutover

Study migrations as a reversible change to one number. Save the old route, test the new route, and keep a way back. That habit is how you avoid a one-way Saturday. It is not a quote from a Zoom or Avaya runbook, because those runbooks were not opened.

  • Avaya's own line says to use AI to understand existing workflows and move to Infinity faster.
  • Faster is not a date.
  • SIP trunking splits a private domain and a public domain.
  • A number can be moved only when you can name the domain that owns it.
  • Rollback is the path back to the domain you saved. This lab does not claim a vendor button for it.

What is going on

Study migrations as a reversible change to one number. Save the old route, test the new route, and keep a way back. That habit is how you avoid a one-way Saturday. It is not a quote from a Zoom or Avaya runbook, because those runbooks were not opened.

The private domain, in the SIP trunking article, is the PBX side. The public domain is the path toward the telephone network. Moving a contact center without deciding which domain owns the number is how calls land on the old platform.

Dual-run means both paths exist during a test. Confirm the feature name on the product. This lab uses dual-run as a study word.

Worked example

Pick one imaginary study number and label it sample, not a real customer number. Write old domain, new domain, test, and rollback. Cite the trunk article for the domains and the Infinity line only for Avaya's direction of travel.

Quiz

1. The Avaya modernization line includes a calendar date.

2. SIP trunking, on the Wikipedia page, separates a private domain and a public domain.

Ecosystem

Sister pieces sit on the ecosystem page: the glossary, the mind map, the integration map, and the bridges.

  • Private domain — The PBX or UC side in the SIP trunking article.
  • Rollback — Returning a number to the path you saved. Confirm the product button.

Config. Write the number's current domain before you write the target product.

Troubleshooting. If the test number still rings the old agent, the public domain may still point at the old private domain. Check that hop before you rebuild the queue.

Bridge. CUCM and UCCE are common old domains. Their Cisco pages did not open in this session.

Mind map, sister technologies, and future hooks live on the ecosystem page.
