Post-migration Validation
After a group moves, you test a subset and you test the queues and hunts that moved with them. After everyone has moved, Unified CM’s remaining job can be transit between the PSTN gateways and Webex Calling. Cleanup then removes the discovery records, the DHCP options, and the virtual machines. Dedicated Instance post-migration reports live in T5-R06.
01 · Executive summary
Five lines, then why it matters
- On-net tests cover transfer, hold, forwarding, and conferencing. PSTN tests cover inbound to users, queues, hunts, and auto attendants, plus outbound caller ID. [cite:1]
- Hunt tests check the configured algorithm, overflow, forwarding, no-answer, and that membership and routing match what was on Unified CM. The article states that as the test goal. [cite:1]
- If hybrid trunking was used from the start, the guide says there is no extra PSTN migration step after the users move, beyond decommissioning Unified CM and the Local Gateways. [cite:2]
- Put migrated directory numbers in a hidden partition so calling search spaces prefer the cloud path. [cite:2]
- Analytics cover media quality, call history, call queue, hunt group, and auto attendant. Troubleshooting can integrate ThousandEyes and Meraki. The detailed guide is “Troubleshoot Webex Calling calls in Control Hub.” [cite:2]

03 · Core concepts
Test the batch, then retire the platform
| Check | What the implement article asks | Cite |
|---|---|---|
| Pilot population | A representative subset across one or more locations. Move voicemail, auto attendants, call queues, and hunt groups with them. Use the same Cisco and third-party tools as the full deployment. | [cite:1] |
| After a group | Test a subset of the users. If queues or hunts moved with them, test those services. | [cite:1] |
| Numbers | Correct extension and external number. On-net and PSTN. Look for overlaps, missing assignments, and misconfiguration. | [cite:1] |
| On-net | Transfer, hold, forwarding, and conferencing. Dial plan and extension-to-extension. | [cite:1] |
| PSTN | Inbound to users, queues, hunts, or auto attendants. Outbound with the correct caller name and number. | [cite:1] |
| Queues | Distribution “such as round robin, longest idle, or simultaneous ring.” Agent presentation, accept, hold, and transfer. This phrase is the Calling test. It is not a Webex Contact Center pattern list. | [cite:1] |
| Hunts | Configured algorithm, overflow, forwarding, no-answer. Membership and routing should match what was on Unified CM. That is the test goal the article prints. | [cite:1] |
Cloud Connect cutover
| Step the guide numbers | Action | Cite |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Select a Cloud Connect for Webex Calling partner available for the location. | [cite:2] |
| 2 | Build a test location and test users. Set that location’s PSTN to the partner. Validate with the test phones. Then deprovision the test location. | [cite:2] |
| 3 | Port all numbers on the Unified CM PSTN trunk to that partner at the same time, so inter-location reachability holds. | [cite:2] |
| 4 | On cutover day, set every Webex Calling location’s PSTN to that provider and verify inbound and outbound. | [cite:2] |
| Already hybrid | If PSTN trunking for hybrid deployments was used from the start, there is no additional PSTN migration step beyond decommissioning Unified CM and the Local Gateways. | [cite:2] |
What the optimize list removes
| Remove or update | Why the guide gives | Cite |
|---|---|---|
| On-premises SRV cisco_uds._tcp and cup_login._tcp | No longer required for client service discovery. | [cite:2] |
| Public collab_edge._tls | No longer required for collaboration edge discovery. | [cite:2] |
| DHCP options 66 and 150 | No longer required for endpoint TFTP discovery. | [cite:2] |
| Local Gateway or CUBE dial-peers to and from Unified CM | No longer required for on-premises call routing. | [cite:2] |
| Unified CM and Expressway virtual machines | No longer needed for call control and edge. | [cite:2] |
| Unity Connection virtual machines | No longer needed for voicemail. The same guide says there is no native move of existing Unity Connection messages or greetings. | [cite:2] |
| After Cloud Connect: Unified CM PSTN trunks, PSTN gateways, and the Local Gateway | The cleanup bullet once PSTN has moved. | [cite:2] |
| On-premises E911 locations and numbers, then those virtual machines | After the full transition. | [cite:2] |
| Migrated DNs in a hidden partition | So calling search spaces prefer the cloud path of the same numbers. | [cite:2] |
| Horizon Mobility dispatchable location and network element | Update when switches, access points, DHCP scopes, or floor plans change. The guide prints the name “Horizon Mobility.” | [cite:2] |

| Unity Connection | The on-premises store. | VMs are deleted after the move. Messages and greetings have no native migration in the guide. | Do not promise the old mailbox contents moved. | Users expect old messages in Webex voicemail. | [cite:2] |
| DHCP and DNS | Discovery for Unified CM and Expressway. | Phones and Jabber keep finding the old cluster if the records remain. | Options 66 and 150. The three SRV names. | A phone reboots onto Unified CM. | [cite:2] |
| ThousandEyes and Meraki | Products the guide says troubleshooting can integrate. | Richer call views in Control Hub. The procedure is the frj1efb article, not invented here. | Control Hub troubleshooting. | A media fault with no call record opened. | [cite:2] |
| Emergency / E911 | On-premises locations and numbers, then the VMs. | Delete migrated locations. Horizon Mobility still needs updates when the floor changes. | The guide’s cleanup bullets. | An old dispatchable location after a switch replacement. | [cite:2] |
| Number porting | T6-R06 for Cisco Calling Plan orders. This chapter’s port is every number on the Unified CM trunk, together. | Partial ports break inter-location reachability in the guide’s step 3. | Cloud Connect partner, not a one-DID experiment on cutover day. | Porting one site while another site still routes through the old trunk. | [cite:2] |

Paths you can cite
- After each batch, compare extensions and DIDs with the Unified CM directory. Place on-net and PSTN calls. Check overlaps. [cite:1]
- If a queue moved, confirm distribution against the logic you configured. The article’s examples are round robin, longest idle, and simultaneous ring. [cite:1]
- For a hunt, confirm the algorithm, overflow, forwarding, no-answer, and that membership matches Unified CM. [cite:1]
- Before a Cloud Connect cutover, provision a test location, point it at the partner, call through it, and deprovision it. [cite:2]
- Port every number on the Unified CM PSTN trunk together. On the day, set each location’s PSTN and verify inbound and outbound. [cite:2]
- Remove the SRVs and DHCP options, hide the migrated DNs, update Horizon Mobility when the building network changes, and delete the virtual machines the guide names. [cite:2]
- Open Control Hub analytics for media quality, call history, queues, hunts, and auto attendants. For a failed call, follow Troubleshoot Webex Calling calls in Control Hub, article frj1efb. [cite:2]

| DI post-migration report names | Not in this optimize chapter | [cite:2] | See T5-R06. TODO-verify before copying those names here. |
08 · Troubleshooting
Ten validation misses
| Symptom | Likely cause | Evidence | Fix | Cite |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A user has no DID in Webex | Number assignment did not match the source directory. | Extension and external number fields. | The acceptance section says to compare both and to check overlaps. | [cite:1] |
| Outbound caller ID is the wrong site | PSTN presentation was not checked. | External call to a known display. | The article asks for the correct caller name and number. | [cite:1] |
| Queue rings everyone at once | The configured logic may be simultaneous ring. It may also be a different pattern you did not open. | Queue settings versus the test phrase. | Grade the queue against the logic you configured. Do not import a Webex Contact Center name. | [cite:1] |
| Hunt overflow goes nowhere | Overflow, forwarding, or no-answer was not rebuilt. | Hunt settings versus the Unified CM group. | The test goal is that membership and routing match. | [cite:1] |
| One location cannot dial another after the port | Numbers were ported in pieces. | Which trunk numbers moved. | The guide says port all of them at the same time. | [cite:2] |
| Production PSTN was switched with no test | Step 2 was skipped. | Whether a test location existed. | Validate on a test location, then deprovision it, then cut over. | [cite:2] |
| Phones boot to the old TFTP | Option 66 or 150 remains. | DHCP scope. | Remove both after cloud registration. | [cite:2] |
| Calls hit the old DN | The migrated DN is still in a searched partition. | Calling search space order. | Place it in a hidden partition so the cloud path wins. | [cite:2] |
| Emergency dispatch uses an old floor | Horizon Mobility was not updated after a switch or AP change. | Dispatchable location and network element. | Update on the events the guide lists. | [cite:2] |
| A call failed and nobody can see media | Troubleshooting was not opened. | Control Hub call history. | Use the analytics the guide names, then article frj1efb. ThousandEyes or Meraki only if that integration is in place. | [cite:2] |
09 · Self-question ladder
Twelve rungs
L0What do you test first?
A representative pilot that includes voicemail, attendants, queues, and hunts, using the same tools as the full move. [cite:1]
L1What does a number check include?
Extension, external number, on-net, PSTN, and overlaps. [cite:1]
L1Is the acceptance list complete?
The article says it is not exhaustive. [cite:1]
L2Which queue phrase belongs in this room?
Round robin, longest idle, or simultaneous ring, as examples of configured Calling queue logic. [cite:1]
L2What is Unified CM’s job after every user has moved and PSTN is still local?
Transit between the PSTN gateways and Webex Calling through the Local Gateway. [cite:2]
L3How do you prove a Cloud Connect cutover was sequenced?
A test location was validated and deprovisioned, all trunk numbers ported together, then every location was switched and tested both ways. [cite:2]
L3When is there no extra PSTN step?
When hybrid trunking was used from the start. The remaining work is decommissioning Unified CM and the Local Gateways. [cite:2]
L4Which DNS names do you remove, and from where?
cisco_uds._tcp and cup_login._tcp on premises. collab_edge._tls in public DNS. [cite:2]
L4Why a hidden partition?
So calling search spaces prefer the cloud path of the same directory numbers. [cite:2]
L5Which report names will you not recite here?
The Dedicated Instance post-migration and post-registration reports. Those belong to T5-R06. [cite:2]
L5What voicemail promise will you not make?
That Unity Connection messages and greetings moved natively. The guide says they do not. [cite:2]
L3Where is the call-troubleshooting procedure?
The guide points at Troubleshoot Webex Calling calls in Control Hub, article frj1efb. This room does not reprint it. [cite:2]

11 · Quiz
Twelve questions
What must move with the pilot users?
Answer
Voicemail, auto attendants, call queues, and hunt groups. The tools match the full move. [cite:1]
Is the acceptance section a complete checklist?
Answer
No. The article says it is not exhaustive. [cite:1]
Which on-net features does the article name?
Answer
Transfer, hold, forwarding, and conferencing. [cite:1]
What queue examples does the Calling acceptance text give?
Answer
Round robin, longest idle, or simultaneous ring. [cite:1]
Unified CM still sits between PSTN gateways and Webex Calling. What role is that?
Answer
Transit, through the Local Gateway, until PSTN moves. [cite:2]
How do you port numbers onto Cloud Connect in this chapter?
Answer
All numbers on the Unified CM PSTN trunk, at the same time. [cite:2]
What happens to the Cloud Connect test location?
Answer
You validate with test phones, then deprovision it. [cite:2]
Name the SRV records and the DHCP options the guide removes.
Answer
cisco_uds._tcp and cup_login._tcp on premises, collab_edge._tls in public DNS, DHCP options 66 and 150. [cite:2]
Why hide migrated directory numbers?
Answer
So calling search spaces prefer the cloud path. [cite:2]
Hybrid trunking was used from the first day. What PSTN step remains after all users move?
Answer
None beyond decommissioning Unified CM and the Local Gateways. [cite:2]
Did Unity Connection messages move natively?
Answer
The guide says there is no native migration of messages or greetings. [cite:2]
Which article does the guide name for call troubleshooting detail?
Answer
Troubleshoot Webex Calling calls in Control Hub, frj1efb. [cite:2]

13 · Interview
Oral answers
30 seconds. Validate a representative pilot with the same tools you will use later, and move voicemail, attendants, queues, and hunts with those people. After each group, test a subset. The written acceptance list is a sample, not a complete script.
2 minutes. Check extensions and DIDs, on-net and PSTN, and overlaps. On-net means transfer, hold, forwarding, and conferencing. PSTN means the call lands on the right user or queue and the far end sees the right caller ID. For a Calling queue, the article’s examples are round robin, longest idle, and simultaneous ring. That sentence is not the Webex Contact Center pattern list. For a hunt, match the algorithm, overflow, and the membership you had on Unified CM.
30 seconds, transit. When everyone is on Webex Calling and PSTN is still local, Unified CM only forwards calls between the gateways and Webex Calling. Do not shut it off in that state.
2 minutes, cleanup. Test Cloud Connect on a throwaway location, then deprovision it. Port every number on the Unified CM trunk together and flip every location the same day. If you started with hybrid trunking, the guide says you skip that PSTN migration and only decommission Unified CM and the gateways. Then remove the UDS, login, and collab-edge SRVs, DHCP options 66 and 150, and the dial-peers. Hide the old directory numbers. Delete Unified CM, Expressway, and Unity Connection. Do not promise that old voicemail messages came along. Update Horizon Mobility when the switches or the floor plan change.
What you will not say. You will not recite Dedicated Instance post-migration report names in this room. You will not call the acceptance section complete. You will not invent steps from the troubleshooting article; you will name frj1efb and stop.

- Open questions: q0pgpb header date. Whether a later Calling queue article replaces “round robin, longest idle, or simultaneous ring” inside the implement page.
- Facts still marked TODO-verify: treating this cleanup list as the Dedicated Instance decommission.
- Facts still marked re-check: the acceptance examples, because that retrieval had no header date.
- Assets missing: analytics screenshot, audio.
- Ideas for v1.0: a teardown card with the three SRV names and two DHCP options, regenerated from the December 2025 guide at review time.
- Next review: re-check the optimize chapter before a decommission window.
