Calling Plan flavors

Domestic, international, and pay-as-you-go are different purchases. The country list is part of the product.

Calling Plans make Microsoft the carrier. You pick a flavor that matches how the user dials, and you can only buy it where Microsoft sells it. Pay-as-you-go is also the funding pattern, with communications credits, for some voice-app outbound calls.

A user in a country without Calling Plans needs Operator Connect, Teams Phone Mobile, or Direct Routing. Assigning a SKU that cannot be used is not a routing problem. It is a catalog problem.

Domestic, international, and pay-as-you-go are different Calling Plans. Check the country list before you assign one.

Worked example

Calling Plans are Microsoft as the carrier, sold only in some countries, in three usual flavors.

  1. Country Is the plan sold
  2. Flavor Domestic or more
  3. Assign The user
  4. Fund Credits if the app calls out

If it fails: A SKU is assigned in a country where that plan is not offered.

Glossary

  • Teams Phone The license capability that lets a user use Teams as a phone system. It is not, by itself, a PSTN carrier. Config: Assign Teams Phone, then add a connectivity option. Fault: Outbound PSTN fails because only Teams, not Teams Phone, is assigned.
  • Calling Plan A Microsoft-operated PSTN option. Domestic, international, and pay-as-you-go are the usual flavors. It is an extra license on top of Teams Phone. Config: Buy the plan only where Microsoft sells it, and assign it to the user. Fault: A user in an unsupported country is given a Calling Plan SKU that cannot be used.
  • Audio Conferencing The license that provides dial-in numbers for meetings. It is not Teams Phone. Config: Assign it to people who must publish a dial-in number. Fault: Conference dial-out hits the SBC and the carrier bill surprises finance.
  • Teams Premium An add-on for advanced meetings and related features. It does not replace Teams Phone or a Calling Plan. Config: Buy it only for the meeting features you actually need. Fault: A design removes Calling Plans because Premium was purchased.

Sister technologies

Around the call: compliance recording, workforce management, emergency location, analytics, CRM screen pop, and an agent with a human escape. Each one has its own failure.

Config and troubleshooting

A SKU is assigned in a country where that plan is not offered.

Cross-platform bridges

CUCM

Cisco CUBE is one of the SBC families named in this lab’s certification lesson. A certified release can be the Direct Routing SBC between Unified CM and Teams.

The tenant still needs a verified domain on the SBC FQDN, and the user still needs Teams Phone. The studio translator does not open a live AXL session. Confirm the current certified release before you build.

Webex

Teams Phone and Webex Calling are separate clouds. This lab does not describe a feature that registers a Webex Calling user into a Teams tenant.

A number move is usually a carrier port, a certified SBC, or a meetings interop product. Confirm before relying.

UCCE

Unified CCE stays the ACD until you migrate it. Microsoft’s contact-center articles name Connect, Extend, and Unify. They do not name a UCCE connector in the notes this lab cites.

Voice into Teams is still Direct Routing or Operator Connect. The routing script stays on the contact-center product you bought. Confirm the vendor’s current model. Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-contact-center.

Future hooks

Copilot Studio, Azure Communication Services, and Graph are later tracks in this lab. Treat any uncited limit as confirm before relying.
