Voice routing is a handful of objects. If you can draw them, the cmdlets are spelling.

A dial plan holds normalization rules. A voice route holds a pattern and gateways. A PSTN usage is a name that ties routes to a policy. A voice routing policy is the ordered list of usages you grant to a user. A PSTN gateway is the paired SBC.

Application instances show up twice in real designs: resource accounts for voice apps, and bots for compliance recording. Confirm which object you are creating before you run New-CsOnlineApplicationInstance.

Remember gateway, route, usage, and policy. The user only sees the policy you granted.

Glossary

  • Effective policy The policy the user actually has after direct assignment and group assignment are resolved. The one you edited may not be it. Config: Read the effective value before and after the change. Fault: You update a policy that is not assigned.
  • Lab tenant A tenant that is not production. Pair a lab SBC there. Do not discover certificate behavior on the company trunk. Config: Keep lab domains and lab certificates obvious. Fault: A lab FQDN is the production FQDN.
  • Get-Help before Set Cmdlet parameters move between MicrosoftTeams module versions. Read help in the version you are about to run. Config: Get-Help cmdlet -Parameter * in the lab. Fault: A script from last year removes a number.
  • Group policy assignment Many Teams policies, including compliance recording, can target a group. Membership changes the effective policy without a click on the user. Config: Read the effective policy after group changes. Fault: Recording starts for people who were only added to a mail group.

Cross-platform bridges

CUCM

Cisco CUBE is one of the SBC families named in this lab’s certification lesson. A certified release can be the Direct Routing SBC between Unified CM and Teams.

The tenant still needs a verified domain on the SBC FQDN, and the user still needs Teams Phone. The studio translator does not open a live AXL session. Confirm the current certified release before you build.

Webex

Teams Phone and Webex Calling are separate clouds. This lab does not describe a feature that registers a Webex Calling user into a Teams tenant.

A number move is usually a carrier port, a certified SBC, or a meetings interop product. Confirm before relying.

UCCE

Unified CCE stays the ACD until you migrate it. Microsoft’s contact-center articles name Connect, Extend, and Unify. They do not name a UCCE connector in the notes this lab cites.
